Any alternative to Sorrento

I want to spend a couple of days seeing Pompeii and the museum in Naples and Vesuvius in late September. We are a family with two teenage children.
I have left it late to find reasonable accommodation! Am not having much luck finding an apartment in Sorrento. Can anyone suggest an alternative town? We will not have a car.

Sure, try San Agnello, Meta, and Vico Equense- all three are towns that are near Sorrento but probably less expensive. ALl are on the bus and Circumsuviana route that leads to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples

Hi J,

Why not stay in Naples?

Naples = didn't consider that. Only because I thought it was a large, dirty city with no charm! The prejudices of someone who has never been to the city...

jaybee:
Naples is a wonderful city which has oodles of charm, however I am thinking of your two teenage children- you may wish to read some reports about things to do there with teenagers, and then make the choice as to what type of area you want to be in in the evening, where your teens might want to enjoy the "Passegiata". In the towns near SOrrento, you could do that in a relaxed way with them. (Naples is a big city with alot of fascinating activity, and yes, it is not spotless!)

Hi J,

I very much liked Naples, mainly because it is "Italian" in the way that Northern cities are not.

It is grungy, chaotic, gritty and marvelous.
