Antica Taverna in Rome

This restaurant has been reviewed in the past, I did a text search, but I was wondering if anyone has been there recently, if it is still there and directions on how to get there. It sounds very good.

I ate there twice last September. It's very good. But not cheap.

Barb Aug 26th, 2002 01:55 PM

I was there last Sept, but I couldn't find it and was very disappointed. I will be there again in September and would like to try again. Do you remember how to get there? When you say not cheap, like how much for dinner? Thanks for your prompt reponse BTW.

ANTICA TAVERNA, Via Monte Giordano 12 (near the Piazza Navona). Husband and I ate there twice in May because it had good food at reasonable prices and had a great atmosphere. Dinner for two of us was about 45 euros. This little restaurant is tucked away on a tiny street that is not easy to find! We came across it by accident while wandering in the area near Piazza Navona and I recognized it as one of the places I had heard recommended here. The second time we went we had a heck of a time relocating it but just as we were about to give up we turned down a quiet residential looking street and suddenly there it was. I would suggest you just ask at a shop in the vicinity. I believe It is a couple of blocks west of the Piazza Navona. The street was not listed on any of the maps that we had. Good luck!

Thanks, I will try to find it - even asked some locals last year and they didn't even know where it was. I am going to persist until I find it!

This is indeed a hidden gem in Rome. To help find it, as you enter the Piazza Navona (coming from the East) go to the right hand corner and follow that street up several blocks. You will the need to ask direction from there. It is hidden at the intersection of 3 very norrow streets. It is small local place and they do not speak a lot of English. It is worth the trouble to find.

Roland, thanks so much, that really helps. Maybe I'll look for it in the afternoon, so I will know how to find it before I'm ravishingly hungry for dinner. I'll let you know how it turns out - I'll be there 9/26.

Samuel Aug 27th, 2002 01:43 PM

Barb we will be looking for you there on the 26th.

Barb Aug 27th, 2002 02:40 PM

Samuel, are you going to be at Antica Taverna on the 26th?

JOdy Aug 27th, 2002 02:53 PM

We were not at all impressed..but different strokes..etc etc!

Samuel Aug 27th, 2002 03:00 PM

Possibly, I will buy you a apertif.

Barb Aug 27th, 2002 03:01 PM

Well then, Sam my man, you are on.

Chris Aug 27th, 2002 03:15 PM

If you have a DK Eyewitness Rome book, the street is shown in the map plates at the end of the book (map page 11, section B2).

Barb Aug 27th, 2002 03:24 PM

Thanks Chris, I don't have that one, must be the only one I don't have, but I will take a look at the bookstore. Thanks again.

Samuel Aug 28th, 2002 10:34 AM
