antibes?
 

We are a 60ish somewhat low energy couple and are taking our first trip to France in May-June. We are thinking of 7 days Paris, 4 days Provence, 4 days Riviera. We would like our Riviera time to be at a quiet reasonable place near the water from which it is easy to take day trips. I am considering the Beau Site at Cap Antibes.
I notice that weather is usually cooler there than at either Nice or Cannes. Any comments or suggestions.

There is no separate board for France; all French topics will appear solely on the one board for Europe.

Where is the Beau Site located? While Antibes is a charming town, getting into and out of it during the day can be cause for hair-pulling because of the heavy traffic.

Sebinah; the hotel looks very nice. It's on Cap d'Antibes, not far from Juan les Pins. It's a lovely area, quiet, but still close to both Antibes and Juan les Pins. You can walk from there to the Plage de la Garoupe, where you can rent beach chairs. Keller Plage has the best restaurant. There's a small public beach as well.

You do need a car there; and if you find the walk to the beach too far, there is a lot of parking at Garoupe Plage; we always park there in July.

I don't know what time of year you will be there, but there is really no difference in weather between there and Cannes or Nice.

As for driving; we always drive all over that area in July, and I don't find it a problem. I don't know how much you want to see in 4 days, but Antibes is nice to visit; the old town, and the Picasso Museum there. And you could easily drive along the sea to Cannes.
Juan les Pins is not a pretty town at all, but there are some nice restaurants right on the beach; simple places where you can just eat a pizza or something, as well as more expensive ones.

According to one of my guidebooks, there is a bus stop right outside the hotel. Buses run every 40 minutes. From the central bus station you could walk to the train station. So for daytrips you wouldn't necessarily need a car.

This looks like a charming hotel in a very nice location; it it had an elevator I'd be making a reservation right now.

In addition to the year-round regular city buses, in the summer there are free minibuses (Monday-Saturday).

If I'm correct about the location (I think I have seen this hotel), there's a small Casino Supermarket very nearby, as well as a pharmacy.
And if you're up to a walk; there's a beautiful path along the sea that leaves from Plage de la Garoupe, around the Cap d'Antibes. It does have stairs though, and it's not safe in strong winds. You could always do part of it, then return for lunch at Plage de la Garoupe. There was a report on the Fodor's home page, with pictures from the path, not long ago.
