Fish on Sunday is iffy. Fish on Monday is out, he says, because it almost certainly was delivered Friday or Saturday. Exceptions, of course, are high-volume seafood restaurants with true daily delivery.

Seriously, if you're squeamish or just prefer to think of restaurant kitchens as palaces of fine cuisine and behavior (they're not, I can vouch) don't read "Kitchen Confidential."

For everyone else, it's hilarious (and dab on with my experiences in the restaurant world.)

I've waitressed so Kitchen Confidential was no shocker to me. I agree, great book!

I enjoyed the show on Paris, it was cool to see some obscure places that aren't listed as "must sees" while in Paris. The "absinthe experience" in the hotel room was kind of cheesy though. I would watch it again if he goes to a place I'd like to see. New Jersey????

kybourbon Aug 8th, 2005 05:48 PM

Starting in a few minutes. Not Europe tonight but New Jersey.

SeaUrchin Aug 8th, 2005 10:52 PM

So far I have only caught the Iceland and tonight's New Jersey episodes. I like his humor and his irreverence, it is refreshing in this PC world of LA. I think he would be a hoot to hang out with once in a while.

Darn...I missed it.

kybourbon Aug 9th, 2005 02:23 PM

Seaurchin - Ssndi travelnut - Maybe you can catch some of the shows you missed on the reruns. Here is the August schedule.

I couldn't even find the channel on my cable lineup. As usualy there was no newspaper listing. The newspaper used to have a chart showing where to find various channels in the lineup of various local cable services. No more. and he cabel co. no longer mails out this secret info. I think I have figured it now now, though, so if I remember, I may watch next week. I'm curious because people seem to have such very different reactions to him.

SeaUrchin Aug 9th, 2005 05:22 PM

Thanks! I'll try to catch them all, he reminds me of most of the guys in my high school, what am I saying, they are still that way! (I recently attended a reunion!)

kybourbon Aug 9th, 2005 05:52 PM

You can sign up on the Travel Channel website and they will e-mail a reminder when the show is going to air.

I think he is wonderful and enjoy all his books. Yes he does smoke but not while cooking. Most chefs do smoke.

kybourbon Aug 14th, 2005 05:52 PM

A rerun of last week's New Jersey episode in on tonight at 10 if anyone missed it.

kybourbon Aug 14th, 2005 06:10 PM

Tomorrow night will be Viet Nam at 10.

francophile03 Aug 14th, 2005 06:18 PM

Is it that time of the week again?

cmt Aug 14th, 2005 06:20 PM

No wonder I can never find these things. Comcast in my area doesn't offer the Travel Channel. Is that the channel that shows it?

kybourbon Aug 14th, 2005 07:02 PM

cmt- Yes, it's on the Travel Channel which usually shows poker instead of travel.

LoveItaly Aug 14th, 2005 07:39 PM

Well I have Comcast and we get the Travel Channel but I don't as my wonderful TV's are older and Comcast put the Travel Channel, as well as H&G, on such a high channel number I cannot receive them on my TV's. Guess one of these days I should replace my TV's but since I hardly watch TV I haven't.

I thought the NJ one was pretty lame. Even tho he went to Hirams, which is right across the street from my friend's apartment complex.

kybourbon Aug 15th, 2005 01:47 PM

Topping reminder for Vietnam tonight.

I LOVE Tony and he and ThinGorjus are two people I would love to hang out with, well maybe not together. But did anyone know that Tony is also an accomplished mystery novelist? His novels include Bone in the Throat, Gone Bamboo and The Bobby Gold Stories.
