126. No, there is no way to follow all of the extensive good but often contradictory advice on this site, and even if you try . . .

127. A man speaking Italian in a restaurant in Florence (who may be a tourist himself - I am a tourist in NYC) might knock a votive full of melted wax all over your arm, your silk scarf doubled around your neck the way the Italian girls wear them, your charcoal cashmere cardigan, and your black microfiber trench coat that you brought in order to pack light, mix and match, and look stylish, thereby ruining it, since you can't pick wax out of a fuzzy sweater and he won't even acknowledge that he did it let alone apologize even if you try to speak in Italian because not everyone in Italy is warm and welcoming and since the weather is unseasonably cold even though you checked the forecast a week ago you'll freeze your butt off until you can find a store in Florence that actually sells a ladies size 14 but that is what you get for going to Italy if you aren't thin and Italian.

128. Please use paragraphs in long posts, or at the very least, periods.

When you write your trip report (and please do write a trip report), if you had a great aversion to something you experienced, it made you shudder, not "shutter."

chicgeek Jul 4th, 2006 07:45 AM

It's about 100 kilometers.......(no matter where it is!)

JAGIRL Jul 4th, 2006 12:35 PM

100km and just right around the corner.

Every hotel in Venice is located "10 minutes from San Marco" according to the hotels' websites.

nukesafe Jul 4th, 2006 01:25 PM

Every place is 500 meters away, when asking direcctions.

Note: The term "meter" is flexible, in either Italian or French, so take this to mean a distance less than three miles. But not much.

:-)

chicgeek Jul 4th, 2006 02:07 PM

Oops! I meant 100 meters. Usually translates to about 25 blocks. And usually uphill.

amwosu Jul 4th, 2006 04:09 PM

Yes, airfares from the US to France are ridiculous in the summer. No, the rates aren't likely to go down.

www.itasoftware.com is a great starting point for airfares and be sure to use the 30 day feature to check for best rates if your travel dates are flexible.

It is possible, but highly unlikely, that youw ill make your 45 min connection at CDG.

FainaAgain Jul 12th, 2006 03:08 PM

No, it's not your computer. Everybody has this problem.

Robespierre, what a clever thread you have started! I'm enjoying it.

Go straight ahead until you reach the last traffic signal, then turn left.

The last two cars don't go to Brussels.

It looks like sausage in squid's ink because it is sausage in squiid's ink.

A 20 cm diameter pizza eaten near St. Marks will cost the same as a 5 course dinner elsewhere.

Yes, the bottled water costs more than the wine. Orangina costs most of all.

High heels and cobblestoned streets don't work well together unless you are a native.

The site you came 3000 miles to see is under renovation.

Get off your duff and book those tickets!
No tuna fish sandwiches on the airplane.
Follow that guy he knows where he is going.

Even if you do buy all your clothes in Europe and basically don't talk to anyone somehow those Europeans will know that you are an American.

massagediva Jul 27th, 2006 05:12 AM
