Another trenitalia.com question
I am having trouble booking our tickets from Florence to Venice through the website. I put in the cities and can easily see the schedules, but under the "buy" column (where one should click on the desired option), it says "no" for all of the times. There is also a notation that they cannot be purchased online. Has anyone encountered this? We are traveling in May. Am I trying to purchase too early for the website? I'd appreciate any insight.

Hi E,
You can purchase up to 60 days in advance. ((I)) |
You can purchase no earler than 60 days in advance.
|
Ira is correct. If you look on the "rules" section you'll see that buying most tickets is usually restricted to 60 days out at the max.

Buy them at the train station, you should have no problem. I never do!!

Just another of a long list of complains i've read about with the Trenitalia site - even if it were within 2 months you seem not able to buy on the English site - can get down to the buy button but then freezes - this is not my experience but which others have said. Some say the Italian version of the site lets you buy when the English doesn't. But you won't save too much by buying in advance as Italian trains are dirt cheap anyway - about $45 in second class i think full fare Firenze-Venezia with a bit more on the Eurostar Italia trains. Hourly links so should be no problem buying once you're in Italy.

Thanks, everyone. I'll wait until 60 days out. I know lots of people recommend buying on the spot, but last time we tried that (trying to book eurostar tickets from Naples to Rome), they were sold out. We kicked ourselves for not purchasing ahead, as we ended up on a slower regional train with many stops. I guess it just depends on the day, whether you'll have a problem getting tickets or not. I figure why risk it, especially since we know exactly when we want to travel. Thanks again for all the help!
