Another transit question- through Amsterdam..

Flying home from Rome and am now thinking of booking on KLM back to Los Angeles. There is a 1hr 15 minute transit from Rome to Amsterdam. Is this enough time to go through security? Do we have to go through customs again or not since we did in Rome? Please advise, thanks!

You will go through passport control, and then security right at your gate.

The official minimum connecting time is 50mins at AMS. It's an easy airport to take connections.

KL601 AMS>LAX is one of my favorites.

Schiphol has a great duty free shopping area but you won't have time to enjoy it. Maybe you can catch an earlier flight from Rome?

Gate security at Schiphol can take an hour. Get in line pronto.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions! Another option is to take the American Airlines flight from Rome (FCO) to London (Heathrow) to Los Angeles. My connection time there is 1 hour 30 minutes. What airport is easier to connect through? Thanks again!

don't go near the LHR !

There's no American Airlines flight from Rome to London to Los Angeles.

There are flights on other airlines from Rome to Heathrow, but they all require changing terminals to get to T3 whence AA leaves.

There's a ridiculous amount of whingeing about Heathrow on this site - mostly from people in shock at discovering that the only way you get to be the world's largest international airport is by being - well, large.

But while they're all a bunch of wooses, even us Heathrow fans would concede that the Amsterdam connection (which involves queueing up to go through outbound passport control, but all happens under one roof) is usually easier than a terminal change at Heathrow (which probably won't involve passport control if it's all on one ticket, but does involve a terminal-to-terminal bus ride)

Yes, changing terminals at LHR DOES involve security control even if it is the same building. The lines can be long and
because of the size of the airport the time is of essence,
Nothing else but common sense

If you fly KLM through Amsterdam you donot go through passportcontrole since both Italy and NL are "Schengen" countries. It will be just the security checks at the gate.
So yes you will make it, but as mentioned you will miss the great taxfree shopping at that airport...
