ecat,
we used habitat in Oct. not far from your apt. choice. We like that location , the metro is next door, it is not as lively as El Born but not "dead" at all.
Our experience with Habitat was very good, we'll use them again in the fall.

CAPH,
I am glad you are looking at other apt. For 10 -20 euros you can get much bigger and nicer place than the friendly rental option.
In my experience , it is worth it!

Thanks, ecat. I'd appreciate hearing about your experience. You mention no cleaning fee if you stay over 7 days. I don't see any mention of one even for a three night stay.

Which brings me to your post, danon. If indeed there is no cleaning fee (did you pay one? and if so, how much?), then the Habitat apt is actually cheaper than the friendly one which charges a 50 Euro cleaning fee. And, as I've said before, I far prefer to go with a company that people here have actually used.

I think I'm going to book today. But I'm still not sure which apartment! Just when I think I've made up my mind, I hear something that makes me think maybe the other one is better! Not complaining though. It's nice to have choices!

there is no cleaning fee with habitat. before booking, read the conditions - check in and out time, payment etc ....

Thank, danon. That was my assumption since there was no mention of a cleaning fee. But I just wanted to be sure.

As I said, that means that Habitat is actually cheaper than the friendly apartment we were considering. Much better all the way around!

Anyone have any input on the location of this one?

http://www.habitatapartments.com/sot...apartamento=62

It's the same price as the one we were looking at in El Born. But it's on the third floor, which I'm hoping might make it a little quieter.

Thanks!

Hiya,

That's a quiet part of gotico, not so much tourist route. You've got it perfect there, something around the post office (the big orange blip below your red point) as its central to everything but really shouldnt be noisy at night.

Loads of hidden little places to eat, the mini-mart style supermarkets slightly more expensive but you'll have much more choice of walking.

If it's within your budget and you're ok with the company it's a good bet.

I think we'll probably go with this one. But would love to hear more comments before we make the final decision.

Thanks!

Thanks, danon. I will! And I want to thank you, yet again, for giving me the initial link to Habitat.

Any other comments on the neighborhood? I like that it's out of the main tourist area in terms of it's being quieter. But want to be sure that that doesn't make it less safe for walking at night.

We used Habitat last spring for an apartment in the Born area--Princesa 8 and Princesa 3. We loved the area and the apartment bldg. is on a small lane with no cars so it was very quiet. Our 18 year old son got there first (he was flying from US and we were coming from France) and he paid with a credit card. When we moved to the second apartment I paid in cash. The lady we dealt with was very nice. There was a great square around the corner that we went to for breakfast and drinks and a small market very close. It is a very hip and vibrant area and I think your 19 year old will really like staying there.

Thanks, macdogmom. I think one of the ones we were looking at is a Princesa so I'm very glad to get your feedback.

Our son is very excited about this trip!

Yep, macdogmom, Princesa 7 is definitely one of the ones we were considering. I'm assuming this is the same building that you were in.

I don't know what floors you were on. But do you think that even on the 1st floor (which would be what Americans call the 2nd floor, right?), it'd be quiet?

Thanks!

CAPH , the apt. you posted is about 5 minutes from Born area. Higher floor is better IMO. I would stick with that one.

Thanks, danon. As I think I said earlier, every time I think I've finally made my decision, someone tells me something that makes me think I'm making the wrong choice. My head is beginning to spin!!! (Though I really do appreciate all of the input I've gotten.)

My husband and I are driving up tomorrow to visit our son at school (UW-Madison) so the three of us should have a chance to really hash this all out. And I hope to make the reservation sometime Sunday.

Your input has been invaluable! Thank you for sticking with me in spite of my indecisiveness!

Both the apartments we rented were on the 1st floor (which is 2nd floor) and they were both very quiet. The apartment is off the street down a small walkway and was great. You can actually see the location in a picture on the website for the apartments.

Well, the decision wound up being pretty much made for us. When we went to the web site on Saturday so that the three of us could take a look at them together, the Princesa one was gone. So we jumped on the other one immediately!

I really appreciate all of the help I've gotten here. And I'll be sure to post back after we return.
