Love cable cars, buit since i'm a rail nut i loved the antique funicular more than i will this new-fangled device.
The old funicular creeped up the mountain ever so slowly - and the open-air luggage platform was so quaint - sounds like the new cable way has a similar ledge for bags. |
Yes---on the way down, we were instructed in Mürren to put our bags in a little open car that the train pushed. At Grutschalp, the open container was somehow attached to the cablecar, and it road under the cablecar down to Lauterbrunnen,---where we retrieved our bags.
Love the funiculars too. Can we come up with a list of the ones that are still left? Giessbach dock up to Grandhotel Giessbach is one; My Swiss Bernese Oberland book says there is a long on up Niesen, above the Thunersee. And Allmendhubel from Mürren. But I don't know anything about other areas of Switzerland. |
Oooops---and the Sunnegga lift at Zermatt---goes underground and I hated it!!!!!!
|
yes though i thought it was novel and the Jungfraujoch train goes thru a tunnel nearly all the way - with two stops at openings for photo opps - like riding a metro (and at $150 or so - the world's most expensive tube ride)
give me a swinging cabe car anyday! |
