Another Rome Taxi Question

I understand than official Rome taxis now charge 40 € for a ride from city center to FCO, plus 1 € per bag.

One part I don't understand is this: if a hotel calls and arranges the taxi, will the passengers be charged, as in the past, the cost of the taxi getting from where they got the call, to the hotel, in addition to the 40 € city > FCO fee?

I hope someone knows.

For a trip to FCO--even before the set rate was put in place--I never paid the additional charge from the time of the call. The hotel told me the set rate for the taxis they call when ordering the taxi. I usually was ordering a taxi the night before for an early morning departure.

There is no bag charge. The official rate is supposed to be 40€ for 4 people including bags.

The airport website used to state a different fee for city of Fiumicino taxis of 60€, but they no longer have that on the website. You needed to make sure you were getting a Rome taxi, not a Fiumicino taxi to get the 40€ rate, but perhaps that's changed.

Sorry this link is so long, but am too lazy to go to tinyurl (tinyurl links expire and don't work work after awhile anyway). The Comune di Roma gives much more detail than the airport.

This link explains the other taxi rates.

You will see street signs stating the Rome/airport rates.

Thank you all for the good information. For some reason, the link I had listed the 40 € fare to FCO, but also listed a euro per bag. Of course, it was in Italian, and I am not good at reading Italian.

Again, thanks.
