Hi nj,

What's your budget?

StCirq Jan 10th, 2005 09:29 AM

Looks like a wonderful trip is shaping up. I'm just wondering why you are moving around so much in Tuscany?

We're hoping to spend about 100-150 Euros/night. As far as Tuscany goes, is it better to stay in one town and take day trips from there? If so, which town would you recommend?

Also, we like to hike. Would you recommend doing a day hiking trip once we get to the lakes?

Are you planning on changing hotels 9 times? If that is your plan, then I would reconsider just that aspect because the itinerary looks quite enjoyable. For instance, think about choosing a hotel in Siena and then do day trips to San Gim and Florence or vice versa.

I had the same thoughts as StCirq. What move around so much. For example, Siena and San Gimignano are so close to each other, why not just stay in Siena the whole time?
Also, are you planning trips to other towns during those four days? If not, then I'd shorten that part of the trip and add it onto Lake Como or Lake Garda.

I, too, was wondering why you are moving around so much. But most of all, I was wondering why, with 3 weeks in Northern Italy, you are not going to Venice. All of the places on your itinerary are wonderful but not nearly so wonderful as Venice, IMO. You could easily stay one place in Tuscany and take day trips. Then you could see Tuscany in 6 days, skip Montecatini Termi, reduce a day in the lakes and have 2 - 3 days for Venice.

I see that itinerary as 5 destinations, or maybe 6--certainly not 9. I think you have Garda and Como reversed. Skip Montecatini and combine your 3 Tuscany destinations into one. See Verona from Garda. You must like to change hotels. Otherwise, a very nice trip potentially.
