Another Paris packing list question
 

I will be in Paris for three weeks in June and am planning to bring one short trench coat along with a couple of cardigans for cooler weather. Will this suffice?

Although weather can always be unusual, I think the cardigans and an umbrella should be fine, without the trench coat.

Sounds like an umbrella would come in handy!

A lightweight (roll-into-nothing) windcheater is always in my suitcase along with one sleeveless cardigan(gilette/gilet?) Thats all.
I found the early mornings cool when setting off for the day - around 9.30am, and maybe much later on in the evening.
I personally think the trenchcoat cumbersome and unecessary.

I always travel with a short trench with zip-out lining (I never summer travel) and find it very useful.

Is the short trench knee length or mid-thigh? If it's mid-thigh and lightweight I'd take it. You might want it evenings and it would be useful on the plane -- it can get very chilly. I think it would be more versatile than a windbreaker. I saw a lot of them (mid-thigh style) in stores in Paris last year.

Your plan for the trench and a cardigan or two sounds good to me.

I think it's hard to say, but a short rain jacket of some kind can be very useful for Paris in summer (June or August). I know it's cool in Europe right now and down into the 40s in Paris at night. You'll be there a long time, so the weather could vary. I've been there several Julys when I really wish I'd had a trench coat (or some kind of rain jacket, with some lining) as it rained a lot and was pretty cool at night.

If you can manage it, I think it might be a good idea. I think it much more useful than the very lightweight windbreaker someone else recommended. I don't like those as they are too casual and look dorky at night or when you are "dressed up" (speaking very loosely), and they are too lightweight to serve any purpose of warmth. A sweater is warmer than those things.

Thank you all. Especially Christina. My husband arrived yesterday and he says it is pretty chilly compared to our scorching temps here at home. I get cold pretty quickly, especially in the evenings. My jacket is mid thigh and lightweight but I can wear a cardigan and light scarf if necessary. Now for the shoes...

Hello mijols3, I have owned a midthigh black sort of trenchcoat style coat for quite awhile. I always take it to Italy with me as even during beautiful weather there can be a rainstorm. And in that I can wear a sweater under it if it gets cold it has come in handy several times. It looks so much better then a windbreaker (which I never wear) and can be worn with pants, jeans or an outfit with a skirt. I take it on the plane with me. Have a beautiful time in Paris!!

Just returned last night from a week in paris. (heaven) I brought a short trench & wore it every day & night, with a cardigan under, so I could remove layers as needed. Hopefully you'll have warmer weather than we had!

A couple of other ideas which I picked up from travellers & came in VERY handy. Bring a little bottle of Purell - does not require water - many of the restrooms don't have soap or paper towels. Also every day bring a bit of toilet paper in your purse - we needed that a couple of times.

Also, a small notepad. Very handy numerous times - we were going to a place that we couldn't pronounce & wrote the name & address down & showed it to the taxi driver. Bargaining with a flea market vendor - I wrote the price down on paper. When someone gives you directions, you can jot it down. Kept track of purchases for customs.

Also, I brought an extra nylon duffle bag that lays flat to bring home purchases.

Thanks for your helpful feedback. We were in Paris in April and noticed the very same thing about public restrooms lacking both soap and tissue paper. I will definetely bring the Purell. I also think your idea of the notepad is excellent... thanks again and hope that your trip was terrific!
