Another Florence on Sunday night question.
 

Saturday night, I'm going to go to Cibreo or Buca Lapi. <BR> <BR>Sunday night: La Garga. However, I got a "not so authentic" review about la garga. so many people on this forum like it. Should I ignore the bad review? Any other OPEN suggestions? Central or in the oltrarno? <BR> <BR>Thanks. And I promise I won't ask again about dinner.

Hi Lisa, thanks for responding to my post for Florence on Sunday. I did get a restaurant recommendation from friends for Sunday dinner. Cammillo is open on Sunday and they both had a great dinner their. It's located on Borgo San Jacopo across the Arno. Has anyone else dined at Cammillo? Is Mamma Gina open on Sunday or maybe lunch on Saturday? Would like any other ideas.

Monica, the Trattoria Cammillo (055/212427; closed Wednesday and Tuesday), Mamma Gina (055/2396009; closed Sunday) and Il Cinghiale Bianco (055/215706; closed Tuesday and Wednesday) are very close to each other in Borgo San Jacopo. We've been only to the Cinghiale Bianco (nice atmosphere in the mezzanino, moderate prices). The Cammillo looked somewhat more upscale and Mamma Gina somewhat more downscale with respect to the Cinghiale. I would guess that reservations for dinner are mandatory in all three of them. <BR> <BR>Lisa <BR>You may eventually consider the Sabatini (Via de' Panzani 9A; 055/211559; closed Monday). This is on the corner of Via de Panzani and Via Giglio, near Piazza Sta. Maria Novella. Haven't been there yet but aside the less than, say, chick surroundings, it has been well recommended by many guides (including Frommer's and Michelin if that's of any value). <BR> <BR>Paulo <BR> <BR> <BR>

I really love to eat - and great restaurants, so I'm interested in your question! <BR> <BR>I really liked La Garga. I don't know what "not so authentic" means when you're in the heart of Florence! I thought it had a "neighborhood feel" and the food was good. And Sunday is a tough time to eat in Florence (I've walked for miles to get a meal! haha) <BR> <BR>I do like Cammillo - been there a few times. I would say it's similar to Garga - though Cammillo has a lighter atmosphere. I agree that Mamma Gina is a step down. And the dinner I had at Cinghiale Bianco was extremely noisy. <BR> <BR>I don't know if you have the time and I may have mentioned it to you in a previous posting - but there's a very little "luncheonette" on the same Borgo San Jacopo, called Ringo's Bar. It says "hotdogs and hamburgers"outside - but don't let that stop you. Sit at the counter and have Signor Pulito work his magic. You get to eat a wonderful meal that you order and you also taste whatever he has working behind the counter. I was turned onto it by a native - really wonderful (I think hemay serve dinner too - but I prefer sitting at the counter at lunch). <BR> <BR>Have a great trip - and if you want to ask other questions about dinner, by all means do it!!! <BR> <BR>Dona

Dona, thanks for making me feel wlcome here. I actually just read an article about Florence in the May issue of Bon Appetit and Trattoria Garga was highly recommended there as well. I'M GOING!!!!
