Cruise Oslo, Copenhagen
Planning a Cruise in Aug. to London, Oslo, Falmouth, Rotterdam, Dover and Copenhagen. We never like to take ship excisions so we need some help in finding transportation and available sights. Anyone bin there done that? Tried looking up taxis on line and it got a little bit creepy.

In Oslo, you can walk from your ship to the new Opera house in ten minutes. Won the culture award at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2008 and the 2009 Mies van der Rohe award, the European Union prize for contemporary architecture. People tend to gather on the roof during summertime. Every now and then, there are outdoor concerts in the waterfront.

Or take a 15-20 mins boat-ride to the museums (the Viking ship museum, the Cultural history musem etc) at Bygdøy. The Bygdøy ferry is also just a ten mins walk from your ship. http://www.visitoslo.com/en/faq-bygdoey.52112.en.html
Out at Bygdøy you might have lunch in the small Herbern island. http://www.sult.no/englishinformation.cfm
Or go for a swim at either Huk or Paradisbukta beaches.
Other obvious attractions would include the Akershus Castle and Fortress (just by the ship) and the extremely popular - also with locals - Vigeland Park. http://www.visitoslo.com/en/vigeland...1r77b.tlp.html
Herregårdskroen is a very nice outdoor restaurant in the Vigeland park: http://www.visitoslo.com/en/herregaa...0r393.tlp.html
Excellent seafood 200 metres from the ship, at Solsiden: http://www.solsiden.no/english.htm
Perhaps visit the old and emblematic Theatercaféen to get a genuine Oslo experience:

Or enjoy the great views over the city from either Ekebergrestauranten (gourmet) or Frognerseteren (traditional).

Taxi stand outside the Opera and at Aker Brygge (shops, cafés restaurants at the waterfront). Both are a ten min walk from your ship. Taxi phone number is 02323.

And in Copenhagen, I very much like the Glyptoteket museum. Use to combine a visit here with a traditional Danish smørrebrød/open sandwich at nearby Tivolihallen or Kanal Caféen (also outdoor terrace).

There's 3 places where the ship could dock in "London". One of them is 22 miles from London at Tilbury. Another is near Greenwich which has plenty for half a day and easy access to the likes of the Tower of London via the DLR and the last is in central London itself where the world is your lobster.
As for Dover - take a taxi to the train station, then the train to Canterbury.

Thank you for the tip on London. However, after a close look we dock in Dover 76 miles out of London. I think we will look to stay in Dover for the day. I will have to check on what to do there. Thanks Again.

The main thing (only thing really) is Dover Castle. It is magnificent, huge, and will take the best part of a day to tour. At least 5 hours if you also tour the WWII tunnels, have lunch, etc. It is a very steep walk up from the harbor so take a taxi.
There are other interesting sites outside of Dover -- but in the city itself it is the castle or nothing.
