Another ATM question
 

I use my debit card all of the time here at home in the states...my money is direct deposited into one account and I transfer it to my debit account. My question is...Will I be able to trnsfer funds via ATM while in Italy and Greece?

Can't speak for I&G, but when I've used my ATM card in Europe, only option is withdrawal, nothing more...and comes out of checking account only.

Out of curuosity, at home when I go to a bank ATM other than my own bank, I cannot do any transfers between accounts. Is this common in USA?

I am in the US. I can only use my ATM to transfer between accounts when I am at my home bank ATM's. I know of no bank that allows transfers at another banks ATM. The electronic links don't exist.

For transfers between accounts from afar, you can use the internet. Or set up the transfer for a future date from your home comuter before you leave.

I have used my debit card to get cash from ATM in Europe and had no trouble, either. But have to remember there´s a limit per day and of course have to know your balance on daily basis.

I would hesitate to transfer funds between accounts at an Internet cafe. That means entering your bank user name and password at these notoriously insecure locations.

And you can't do it at an ATM.

We just make sure there's enough money in our checking account before we leave. And use our credit cards for the bigger bills. (We upped the limits on our credit cards -- in case of emergency.)

Maybe there's some person at home who could be trusted to do the transfer for you?

Email your bank. Request a transfer from account # 0000 to account # 0000. You could also request your bank to keep a minimum balance in your check/debit account. Dicuss this with your bank.
