Anniversary Trip - Hotel in Rome

I am planning an Anniversary trip to Italy and have everything in place except where to stay in Rome. I was thinking Hotel Eden, but the reviews are very mixed. If you could stay anywhere in Rome where would you stay for a great hotel, good location, good service, etc. While cost is not an option, Hotel de Russie and Hassler are out of our range. Please help!!!

I will go back to the Albergo del Senato on my next trip. Although the rooms are small, the hotel was just about perfect..for me. The Minerva is also worth considering.

I have also heard great things about Portrait Suites if you want to be in the Condotti area.

Well, I like funky apartments, but when my I met my mom in Rome we stayed at Albergo del Senato. She likes things just so and she loved it there. Great place for her to have jetlag. I just gave her a drink and a view of the Pantheon and she was in heaven.

What about the Minerve? Also a wonderful location.

Oops, I'm sorry. I didn't see that ekscrunchy reco'd the Minerve as well. I know I've read good things about it here.

we stayed at the minerve and would most definitely go back. I think the location is better than senato b/c essentially the same but on quiet, gorgeous square instead of throngs of tourists. Rooms were nice size, roof bar lovely. Also stayed at lungarno suites in florence, same owner as portrait suites (ferragamo) and that was fabulous so you can probably generalize

Definitely will go back to Albergo del Sentato. Location, location, location, great service, nice rooftop bar. Not the fanciest but perfect.

Another option ... the Hotel Gladiatori www.hotelgladiatori.it next to the coliseum. Gorgeous hotel, great location and wonderful terrace!

Another vote from the Albergo del Senato fan club. We spent 6 nights there this past Christmas and it was perfect. We had room 603 - top floor with a little balcony and Pantheon view. The room itself was small but beautifully furnished with a nice bathroom, and you just can't beat the location or service. I believe they've got 2 rooms on the top floor with larger terraces (and presumably larger rooms) if you really want to splurge. Watching the sun rise and set over Piazza della Rotunda and the Pantheon is a vision I will never forget!

People complain about the Senato being in a busy location, but the times we were actually in our room - early morning and late evening - the piazza was relatively quiet. Granted we were there in the winter and kept the door to the balcony closed at night, so you may want to take the timing of your trip into consideration.

We passed the Minerva many times and it looked nice - certainly a quieter location but equally well-situated.

We just returned in July and loved the Hotel Santa Maria in the Trastevere area. We actually stayed ay the brand new Residenza around the corner. Very private and great location. I felt like we had a private apt. in Rome. I think only 6 rooms on the ground level. No room service available, although ton of great places steps away. Our luggage was lost and the front desk offered to go buy me everything I needed and spent hours on the phone tracking down our bags.
