Anniversary in Paris

Need hotel advice. My husband and I are overnighting in Paris on our way home from Moscow. It happens to be our anniversary, so we're hoping to find somewhere special to stay. We're usually with our kids, so willing to push the boat out a little. We know Paris very well, having lived there decades ago, so won't be visiting the tourist sites. We're after a day of shopping and walking around and are trying to decide between the Marais, our favorite neighborhood in years past, and the Left Bank, which we fear may be too touristy but might be good for shopping. Would love hotel recommendations.

Impossible to help much w/o knowing your budget. If by "pushing the boat out a little" you mean you are willing splurge a bit - we need to know an amount . . . .

I would go with the George V for a special occasion such as this

Second choice would be Le Meurice

What's your budget, M?

Thanks for the responses. I think we'd like to top out at 400 euros, if possible, certainly no more than 430. And we want to avoid the 8th arrondisment and the Rue Rivoli area. We stayed on Rue Rivoli in June with our kids and while it was lovely and great for our little ones, it was a bit too touristy for our taste.

Pavillon de la reine on the Place des Vosges have some superior rooms at 430€...
Hilton Champs Elysées is a nice art deco hotel.

Thank you Erik. Have you stayed at Pavillion de la Reine recently? We stayed there a little more than 10 years ago and were a bit disappointed with our room. We've been thinking of trying again as it was such a long time ago and the location is so fantastic.
My husband stayed at the Hilton you mentioned recently and said it was lovely. It's just not the neighborhood we want to be in if we're there for less than 24 hours. Still torn between the Marais and St.Germain/quartier latin, if you have any advice.

Hotel Luxembourg Parc in the 6th?

http://www.luxembourg-paris-hotel.com/

The 6th doesn't feel 'touristy' to me. Maybe it's because I'm a tourist I don't know. Anyway, if I could afford it I'd choose the Luxembourg Parc over another often recommended 4* St. Germain hotel called Hotel de l'Abbaye.

Thre have been some ameliorations at the Pavillon.
In St Germain, 2 ideas :
Lutetia and Pont Royal, with perhaps a "preference" for Pont Royal.

Thank you. Good to know about the Pavillion. I've always wondered about the Lutetia. Don't know the Pont Royal. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Lutetia and Pont Royal get mixed reviews at Trip Advisor if that helps.
