Annecy - How many days?

We will be traveling from Beaune by car to Annecy and then on to Sarlat in late Sept. I'm planning on leaving Beaune early and have booked one night in Annecy. We would like to walk around Annecy and then take the boat on the lake. I've read and seen pictures and since we are close by I really wanted to see it. Now I'm wondering if we should stay 2 nights and then head to Sarlat for 6 nights? Any suggestions? Thank you.

You could arrive in Annecy by mid morning, take the boat ride, then walk the town and have dinner in the evening.

I think you should head out first thing the next morning so as not to further limit your time in the Dordogne.

I helped a girlfriend plan a trip that included a single overnight in Annecy. And that worked fine.

Personally I would do two nights in Annecy. While it can be done in one day, it can be savoured at a more leisure pace.

We drove Beaune to Annecy, stopping at the monastery and church in Brou on the outskirts of Bourg-en-Bresse and enjoying a lunch on the famous local chicken dish at the auberge across from the church--this is a wonderful architectural gem! And arrived late afternoon in Annecy. Try a local fondue along the canal at Le Petit Chalet or a more substantial meal at La Brasserie St. Maurice. Walk off the calories by taking a stroll along the canals to the lovely lake.

The next day we enjoyed the morning market and a walk around the old town. Lunch was fantastic on the MS Libellule as it cruised the lake--NOT the tourist trap with mediocre food that I had feared. We can hardly wait to do it again. We were there in September and it was still very hot weather, so we appreciated the lovely cruise in air conditioned bliss.

You can never spend enough time in La Dordogne and the Perigord Noir areas...there is SO much to do. But 6 days would certainly still be a decent amount of time in one area.

Just my personal take. But don't worry, it will be enjoyable no matter what you decide!

I never get tired of Annecy. I go there three or four times a year and always stay for 3-5 days. If you like cycling you will love this town. Another great little town nearby is Aix Les Bains which is also on a very large lake.

Have fun,

I have not been to Sarlat so I can't speak to 6 vs. 7 nights there. Annecy isn't big and doesn't require a lot of time. I agree with the post regarding arrival in the morning -lunch-cruise-dinner then leave the next morning. I love Annecy and I'm glad I stayed there, but unless you're into biking and outdoor sports, 1 or 2 nights is fine, especially if heading elsewhere.
