Anne Frank House - new entry system advice

After researching getting into the Anne Frank Museum it seems that the online tickets have always sold out quickly and that the advice was to get there early and buy at the door. If you go to the website now at the top it states NEW ENTRY SYSTEM FROM 1 MAY 2016 and further down seems to imply that ONLY people who have prepurchased tickets can get in from 9:00 to 15:30 and that walk-up purchases are only allowed after 15:30. Is that what's new after 1 May? Or has it always said that and you can still get there early and buy at the door?

It doesn't 'imply' it -- says it outright. Only timed on-line ticket holders will be admitted up to 3:30PM.

I presume that is to control the MASSIVE queue of people w/o timed tickets. Hundreds of people - often around the block.

It has not always said that -- the non ticket holder line used to run all day long w/ a handful getting in every time slot throughout the day.

You definitely wanted to pre-purchase then and now it would seem to be the only viable option.

That is weird -- my post didn't top the thread . . . trying again.

Friends joined the 15:30 line last week and were inside in 1 1/2 hours. It was a Thursday in the rain.

Best to book.

janisj...thanks for the reply. I agree, it says it outright. I was just trying to understand if that's what the change was or if it always said that. Good to know, no reason to go early and wait. There are NO tickets available for our 3 days at the end of this month. It just wasn't on my radar that I had to be watching this so closely.

In another post some Dutch expert said it was a new policy to answer the OP's question. Me I don't know but do remember something about that from this Dutch expert who thoughtfully posted it.
