Anguillara Sabazia
I remember seeing an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where the whole family went to Italy. Apparently the town they filmed in was Anguillara Sabazia and I thought it looked spectacular on tv. I just realized that this town is very close to Rome, is it easy to reach and worth to visit? How does it compare to a town like Orvieto or other towns in Tuscany/Umbria? I'm surprised that there isn't a lot of info/hype/attention on that town. Thanks.

It's a small medieval town (18000 inhabitants) at the shore of Lake Bracciano. Many small hotels and restaurants.
Trains to Rome every 30 min, railway station 3 km from the center.

I imagine they chose a location close to Rome to make it easier.

There are thousands of little picturesque towns in Italy. Why would this one get attention (other than this filming)? There are also a lot of other towns near Rome used for filming because of the film industry there.

There is an association of small towns in Italy, called "i Borghi più belli d'talia" that designates beautiful little towns all over Italy that are for the most part totally off the touist map.

Even this is only a small sample of beautiful villages, because the towns have to submit an application and pay a fee to be evaluated for listing, so some towns can't be bothered or don't have the resources to collect the data and compile the paperwork.
The closest town to Rome on the list is Castel Gandolfo, in the Castelli Romani area, a region of hills, lakes and castles. There are other very pretty little towns in that area as well. Some of the towns have train connections to Rome, and others are served by buses. If you do a little research on "Castelli Romani" either online or in a good guidebook, you'll find lots of information. Sermoneta is a very beautiful town in this general area, but to get there by public transportation you have to take a train to Latina and then a bus to Sermoneta.
