angels, architecture and sunsets
I have dreams of angels and domes bathed in the terracota light of the setting sun as it falls over them, gently caressing the cold marble facades with its emanating light and falling gently into the twilight of night.....
Just wanted to get your ideas on where you were able to best view this wonderous nature of the sun setting... in... (Rome)? (Florence)? (Siena)? Please share your memories of that magical moment (what's it called in photography--or is that for sunrise?).Anyway, where can one best capture the moment where the sun setting falls into twilight??? Appreciate your ideas and thougts. thank you kindly, in advance! Patricia |
going to re-submit...(surely you have favorite places to view a stunning sunrise or sunset)
Thanks! Patricia |
The sun setting over the caldera, as seen from the old castle in Oia, on Santorini, is pretty nice!

If your title were a little more explicit, it might bring more responses...
Ira always recommends viewing the sunset from a café on the main square of Fiesole (take the No. 7 bus, but be careful of pickpockets). |
Well, not Italy, but I have this magic moment captured in my mind of sitting on the Pont Neuf, watching a breathtaking sunset and thought it over walked away, an angel tapped my right shoulder, I turned that way, just at the right moment to see the Eiffel Tower light up. Magic, whole lotta magic! (and it works well with the gold stone of le Louvre too)

These are great suggestions so far! Anyone have any others? (Specific to Rome, Florence, Siena, Venice, and Naples?)
Thanks everybody!! Patricia |
I was sitting at my open doors in an hotel right on the canal and noticed that if I leaned out far enough I could get a view and photograph of the length of the canal. It took me so long to get the right angle that the sun was setting. It was the most wonderful experience, watching the sun set on the water and right on cue a gondola drifted by making a black silhouette framed by the black as night buildings lining the canal and the water and sky turned a sepia hue. |
That was in Venice of course.

Piazzelle Michaelangelo in Florence.

I will second the above for Florence !
They do not stick that picture on thousands of postcards for nothing :-) In Rome, standing on the Ponte Sisto during sunset in early summer, and looking towards St. Peter's. Standing high up on the terrace at the hotel in Procida, and watching the sea turn colors as the sun went down and the lights blinked on, over on the mainland.... |
Thanks everyone who participated! I have some great ideas for viewing the sunset!
Thanks again! Patricia |
Photographers sometimes call it "sweet light," but we call it "golden hour."

Hi Patricia,
Get up early one day. Sunrise can be better than sunset. See San Marco square and the Salute in Venice, the hills of the Amalfi Coast, the Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur,.... |
