We travel too Spain in May.Upon leaving Barcelona,we will spend 5 nights in Sevilla(sleeping there all 5 nites-this is firm and immovable-others in party see static status as ideal-oh well).The dilemma is not a new one:WHAT DAY TRIPS FROM SEVILLA ARE A MUST ?I think Cordoba is definite-via AVE train.As for the other options,I am unsure!
-Ronda ?
-Grenada(too far,too long,similar to Mezquita,and Alcazar?)
-Jerez/Cadiz?
-Carmona?
OTHER OPTIONS PLEASE?

I think it depends on what you want and what you are looking for. It would seem a shame though to come all the way to Adalusian Spain and miss the Alhambra in Granada.

I would think that is a MUST with a capital M .

I am not sure how that works out for a day trip though from Seville.I am sure others know more about that aspect.

We booked the dancing horses in Jerez as I think that is a must, but is not for everyone. I think there is quite a festival there in May as well which looks spectacular with women dressed in Flamenco outfits on those beautiful regal horses.What a sight!

I would also go to one of the prettiest tiny white hill villages as they are key to Andalucia as well. ( There are a few to choose from).

Rhonda is a choice most people also love.

If you like nature, there is plenty of that or also the roman ruins. More choices than days, huh?

I know , my problem too. ;) That means you have to come back. ( grin).

Not a specialist by any means, but I loved Arcos in addition to the above. Easily doable in a day from Sevilla. Granada warrants more than a day trip, IMHO, but if you must....

Cordoba by train should be no problem in one day.

I agree with you WT,Grenada/Alhambra is a must.

Granada is spectacular and unique. Simply the best. But you need advance reservations for the tickets (internet). You can make it a daytrip from Sevilla (if you do not mind driving).

Cordoba is also great. IMO, the Cordoba cathedral is much more beautiful than the cathedral of Sevilla.

Carmona is a nice charming town (one of the "white towns") with a sort of morbid charme. For me, a good place to stay.

Ronda is another "white town", and many say, the most beautiful one.

Cadiz is not worth a side-trip.

Jerez is worth a visit if you want to make a tour to a sherry bodega. Most bodegas require advance reservations (possible by internet).We visited Gonzales Byass (Tio Pepe) which was impressive. But others are equally good. If you are there, you may make a sidetrip to Sanlucar de Barrameda - nice beach with many restaurants serving fresh seafood.

I'm just a person who just took my first trip to Spain. I recommend the roman ruins at Italica. It is just outside of Seville. You can take a bus for 1 euro and be there in 20 minutes. There is a nice patio restaurant right across from the ruins.
