Are there any noteworthy festival in Andalucia in August, and which towns are best to check them out? Thanks in advance.

nyc8,
Here are some festivals for you, some more noteworthy than others. On the eastern side of Andalucia: In Almeria (capital)- La Virgen del Mar, last 10 days of Aug. with bullfights, a Fairground with 50 "casetas" Seville Feria style, bars spilling over, and a flamenco festival in the Plaza Vieja In Mojacar, Almeria province- San Agustin, from Aug. 27-30 down on/near the Costa del Sol: In Malaga, capital- La Feria de agosto, from 2nd Sat to 3rd Sun of August with lively fairground at night, daily bullfights with the famous matadors. in the white town of Competa in the Axarquia, Malaga province- 8/15, "la noche del vino" (could be very interesting...) In white town of Ojen, above Marbella- Festival de Cante Flamenco, last of July, first days of Aug. In Almunecar, Malaga province- Virgen de la Antigua, their patron saint. 8/15 On the far western side: In Mazagon, Huelva province- Fiestas de verano, 1st wkd of Aug. In Palos de la Frontera, Huelva province- Romeria Virgen de los Milagros, 8/15 and concerts/opera at the Convento de la Rabida. Have fun! |
The Tomatina in Bunol--I believe it's the last weekend of August. Definitly something to check out. It's a huge tomato fight that the whole town gets in on. It's nuts.

Thank you all for your responses.

nyc8,
Just a note-the Tomatina festival in Bunol is in the Valencia region, in case you're looking for it on the map. |
I heard that the Malaga Feria ( August) is super fun and the big advantage is that the casetas ( tents) are mostly public. In comparison at the Feria de Sevilla they are mostly private & one cannot just join a private area.
I don't think I could do August in the south though.😰 I would be interested to hear from anyone eho had attended Malaga Feria in August. |
amsdon, this thread is 22 years old, and the original poster is long gone!
