Andalucia Travel Guide Book
Does anyone have a travel guide book that they used while travelling through Andalucia that they would highly recommend? Fodor's, Frommer's, Rough Guide,Lonely Planet ect..... I just came back from Border's and I wasn't sure of whice of the above mentioned I should purchase. I'd love to hear your reasoning on which one you enjoyed the most. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

dandrews42,
Guide books are such a matter of personal taste and travel style. I don't find that any one is necessary "one size fits all". Here are my favorites: I actually think the new ('03) Rough Guide Andalucía is quite good, very detailed and quite up to date, accurate, more current than the Lonely Planet and the Footprint: Andalucía. (But I like lots and lots of detail). I would supplement it with one that gives you rich historical and cultural info as well, such as the Cadogan Andalucía or the Eyewitness Seville & Andalucía ('03). |
I agree Maribel that the travel guide must be one that fits your own personal travel style and I probably will pick up the rough guide as this was the one that I liked the most because of the detail when I went to the bookstore earlier today. It's just that when I went to Hawaii the Kauia Revealed travel guide was recommended by fellow Fodorites and the book turned out to be wonderful.
Knowing that you have travelled Andalucia let me ask you what was your favorite adventure while there? |
We are leaving for Spain in a week, and have used the Rough Guide to Andalucia for planning most of our trip (along with Maribel's notes and help from other Fodorites!). The book has beeen an amazing resource. It seems to be more through and user friendly than some of the others we looked at.

Depends on your interests but if you like walking tours suggest you read "Walking in Andalucia"..Guy Hunter-Watt the author. He lives near Ronda and leads walking tours in the Grazalema area.

I use different guides to plan my trips, but I think that Eyewitness is by far the best to bring along on the trip.
Maribel is right- Eyewitness to Seville and Andalucia is great! |
