I don't know why everyone insists on Barcelona. It's a nice place but I can only take so much Modernisme. If you must go then, start there and fly to Granada for two nights, then Malaga for two. This might be the only place to rent a car as you drive up towards Ronda. You can use it as a base to visit the small white villages where the bus only stops once a day. From there head to Seville for 3 to 5 nights. Visit Cordoba as a daytrip or spend two nights there. Cadiz is also a great place to spend 2 or 3 nights. After Andalucia head to Madrid for 4 or 5 nights and visit Toledo and/or Segovia as a daytrip. If you still have an extra week and it's early fall, San Sebastian is a gem and not overrun with tourists.

Arjaykay, we did Egbert's itinerary, only we flew into Madrid, then at the end we flew Seville to Barcelona. It worked perfectly for us. I agree about Barcelona. It wasn't our favorite. But it was the Merce festival, and we thought that was fun. We didn't really care for Gaudi.
On the other hand, if you have the opportunity, and have never seen a place, then you should check it out and make your own judgment call.

Here is our trip report from last year (with photos).

We visited Barcelona, Granada, Ronda, Zahara de la Sierra, Sevilla, Cordoba, Toledo and Madrid. One of our greatest trips. The link below should give you some ideas.

The blog on this website helped me a lot to plan my trip: http://atdspain.com/en/news

You can find neighborhood guides for Sevilla there to see the city a bit beyond the main tourist spots, it's quite interesting. But it also has some themed blogs about what to do or what to eat in other andalusian cities. For good stories about Andalusia and some travel inspiration I'd follow this twitter page: https://twitter.com/AndalusianNews I got a lot of inspiration there because it highlights things you would otherwise never know, like where to taste Andalucian craft beer and underwater museums you can visit by diving and stuff!
