I meant we got rid of the old barbecue. I don't know how "rid of" became "recently".
|
And it was 80 in Anchorage.
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold... |
Sheila,
We will be in Scotland next May celebrating our 50th birthday and my twin sister is already worried about how her hair will look during the trip. I don't know why she cares - nobody over there would know if she was having a good hair day or not! (She's probably worried about whispered comments - "Look at that poor bedraggled American woman over there....") |
I joined a barbecue once but I eventually decided my hair didn't need cutting.
;-) |
Mucky, very funny :D
Sheila, darlin, I just spent the hottest stickiest weekend in Savannah Georgia and I was longing for a shivery chilly damp day that I could bundle up in a sweater and sit before a fire (or in your case a BBQ) My dad is on his way to St Andrews to play golf again, poor mad man! |
just saw this-topping as a companion thread to "Scotland-May or August"
|
Well, if this year's typical I'm emigrating!!
It's now late June and today has been warma nd a bit sunny; we now have thunder and lightning with a Met Office warning of flash floods. I kid you not! |
aye, don't doubt it-you just can't predict Edinburgh weather one day to the next- if the Met Office said a brief snow shower was in the works, I'd have no difficulty believing that as well!
|
Sheila -- you know you are always welcome in Chicago:) Although something tells me you'd be more likely to move to France or Greece ;)
|
Sheila, drinks on the deck, watching the sun go down, seeing the pelicans dive, you are still invited.
|
Blimey, woman, pour yourself a tumbler of Bombay Sapphire and pull yourself together!!! No self-respecting Scot would ever go to pieces over a wee bit of damp.
"Whiskey and freedom gang thegither." ----Robbie Burns |
ah well, if it's drinks we're talking, Bombay Sapphire is for the Sassanachs- up north, we'll go for a wee dram and that would be our lovely single Islay malt Bunnahabhain. (sheesh- it's starting to creep into me again-and I'm not even there yet!)
|
Did I say I was going to pieces???
But, seriously, this is bloody ridiculous. It must be stopped. This morning has dawned bright and clear, albeit cold- 7.5 degrees at 6am. And I have booked a week's holiday to the west at the end of July, 3 days of which will be in Port Charlotte, Islay, Airlawgirl, a mere stroll from Bunnahabainn and Islay's other 6 working distilleries. |
Ah, but is it a mere stroll back after visiting them?
|
More of a stagger, actually
|
or maybe a crawl, perhaps? Islay sounds quite nice, wish I could get up that way next week, but- the City calls! (speaking of which, I'd best sign off and get busy!)
|
Burn some cow, toast some pig, swill a little gin . . . what's weather got to do with it? When it's hot, the perspiration seasons the meat, and when it's cold, just move a little closer to the coals and add habanero or Scotch Bonnet or two . . . and kwitcherbitchin!!
So . . . what's up, Sheila? |
FIO anyone else thinking of visiting : if there is a pattern, it's usually nice (well, as nice as it gets) in May, dodgy in June & July and nice again in August, when the festivals are on. It's the 1st July and I'm in full winter gear and boots !
|
It it makes you feel better Sheila we have a slightly milder version of the same weather here. It was beautiful a few weeks ago but cool again. I have to move to a slightky warmewr place some day.
As for the BBQ, do what my dad did when he decided to BBQ in the winetr. My neighbors already thought we were strange with the funny accents etc but he started BBQ's in snow storms in the garage with the door open. It was hilarious looking but tasted great. |
Once again I have murdered a perfectly good post with my spelling.
