Ancestory Search in Scotland

I've been trying to do genealogy research on my family roots. I've traced my family back to Scotland, but not much further than that my great-great grandfather came from Edinburgh. I'm planning on traveling to Scotland in the spring, but would love to start doing some more research online before I get to Scotland. Can anyone suggest websites in Scotland where I can do some tracing? Are there are groups that specialize in this heritage? Thanks so much! I can't wait to see my family's homeland!!!

Paula, check out the General Register Office website, http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/

Visiting Register House in Edinburgh should be top of your list of things to do on arrival. Notwithstanding your own family research, it's a wonderful building and resource.

I think you can log onto ancestory.com and look up your surname.

Thanks for the tips. I can't wait to get there in April!
