Well, Saps, I'm officially late for getting home because I couldn't stop reading your superb report. Great writing style with lots of good info mixed with humor. Thanx for sharing and congrats on the marriage. Dave

Thanks for the pictures, saps - It was fun to see the Vatican Museum without people since, when we went, it was jam-packed! I'll definitely do the private tour next time.

You and your bride look lovely and happy and I wish you all the best. Italy is certainly the best start you could have!

saps- after reading your report we were set on the vatican after hours tour... and there is a tour when we're going to be in Rome. But the price has risen to 250Epp with the new Vatican pricing policy. Given that, would you still splurge on the tour if you were us?

Thanks!

Hi Tim or Liz :-)

For us it was our honeymoon and with my horrible experience 10+ years ago I decided to splurge and spend the money (175E pp).

Would I have spent 500E per person? No. 250E? That's getting in the range that would have made it tough for me to afford but knowing what I know now and knowing how I felt when the visit was over I would have paid 250 E but probably not much more.

We have told several people since that being in the Sistine Chapel with just a handful of other people was one of the highlights of our trip and we loved every minute of it.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks saps (Liz here)

After discussing this with my sister and my mom (we've all been to the Vatican in sardine-like conditions) and Tim (who's never been) we are most likely going to sign up for the tour.

My sister made a good point-- Tim and I are only in Rome for 3 days, and much of what we want to see is outside and must be seen in daylight. Do we really want to spend a half-day or more waiting in line to be herded like cattle? Probably not.

Thanks again for your response. I enjoyed reading your entire trip report!

Liz

Can't get over how FANTASTIC your pictures are. And I really loved your report. I wouldn't mind seeing the speedo. You know when in Rome...

Much love, laughter and life to you and your lovely bride.

Theresa in Detroit.
