An F&M "ZONE" question
Sorry for going on about this subject but I have a technical question about Foot and Mouth--I just noticed on the map of County Louth, that there are different "zones": Cull Zone, 10km Zone, 3km Zone, and Restrction Zone. Does anyone know what the differences are? Thanks

The cull zone is where all animals are being killed while the restricted zone is where all animals are being watched for symptons and can not be moved.
|
So I am assuming that people are not allowed in the Cull/Restricted Zones--what about the other zones?

I believe the original cull zone was at 3 Km (1.8 miles) from the animal with the disease. This cull zone was then expanded outward a bit and that is listed as the new cull zone on the maps. 10Km (6.2 miles) is the restricted zone where no animal movement can take place and the animals are being visited by vets on a regular basis. I would not attempt to visit these areas, although I have'nt been there I have heard there are road blocks up.

According to my cousin, who farms in Co. Roscommon, the main roads are open through that part of Louth, but the authorities do have some roadblocks up on side roads in the restriction zone. He says they are asking visitors not to go into the area unless they have personal business there or are passing through on the way to someplace else without stopping.<BR>
