An Evening in Paris -- Help :)
 

Hi all,

My wife and I will be spending an evening in Paris on our way elsewhere.
We are staying at the Meridien Etoile near the Arc.

We will only be in Paris for a few hours. It'll be 7pm by the time we get to the hotel and get ready to leave the hotel -- our flight is at 11am the next morning and we don't mind staying up till the wee hours of the morning.

Can the gurus, Parisiens, and Paris lovers suggest what we could do in the evening/night?

Here is some info to perhaps help you in your response:
- I proposed to my wife in Paris 3 years ago when I took her there for literally 24 hours from the US. We visited Montmartre, L'Arc, took a tour of the Seine/city on one of the boats. Had dinner/drinks at some nice places and even shopped some at Louis Vuitton.

This trip is more about being casual etc. - therefore any good places to eat/casual (if there is such a thing in Paris), areas to visit early evening/night will be helpful.

We'll be there on a Sunday night.

1. Is going up the Eiffel Tower worth it -- or do you think we'll waste too much precious time (This is definitely not going to be our last visit to Paris)?
2. How about the Latin Quarter area? Good place to spend the evening/early night?
3. Any other suggestions?

I;ll suggest the Latin Quarter (5th) and Brasserie Balzar. It is open on Sunday evenings and is a quintessential
Parisian eatery.

Frig, the latin Quarter? Perhaps a trip to the Eiffel Tower then head to Ile St Louis for a romantic dinner.

So it looks like Eiffel Tower and vicinity is the way to go.

How far is Ile St. Louis from Eiffel. Any specific location within the Latin Quartier that is recommended?

Paris isn't a big city, but Ile St. Louis isn't close to the Eiffel Tower.
I think you should walk down one of the street leading to the Trocadero and watch the tower sparkle from there.
The Avenue Victor Hugo is pleasant to stroll along; you could have dinner at Stella, an old fashioned brasserie type place (nice casual dress if perfectly acceptable), then head down the Ave. Raymond Poincare to Trocadero for a nightcap at one of the cafes overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

The Pont Alexandre III is quite romantic, a nice place to look over the Seine take some photos or each other next to the beautiful lamp posts.

Have a cocktail at the Hemingway Bar at the Ritz, then go to Kong for dinner.

I agree. Go to Trocadero to watch the Eiffel light up at night. You could go at 10PM or later and have a nice, leisurely dinner beforehand. Bring some champagne or wine with you too. We did this our last night - just a few days ago :-( - and it left us with memorable experience to go home with. Its little touristy with the hawkers selling their wares, but worth it.

There is a café called Chez Francis at Pont d'Alma that has a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower. You can have a nice dinner at one of the places suggested and have a leisurely stroll along the Seine, then have your coffee or digestif there.

Ira knows what he is talking about a dinner at Le Fontaine de Mars after seeing the tower would be the perfect French experience. You can very easily walk to Le Fontaine de Mars. Finding a place open Sunday night is also a ++
