An early riser

In April, my sister and I will be travelling to Italy. She likes tosleep late. I am an early riser. I like to walk in the morning and I yearn for a cup of coffee. Where can Iget coffee at 6 or 6:30 in the a.m.? Are the streets safe to walk then? We will be going to Venice, Rome, Sorrento and Florence.

Hi<BR> You can get a cup of coffee (and some breakfast) at the fish market near the Rialto Bridge. It opens about sunup.

your sister can sleep late at home. Get her out of bed and make the most of Italy.

Don't wake your sister up!.. I too am an early riser. My favorite part of every trip is to wander - alone - around the city, village, country... And in Italy a cup of coffee at the end is a must. Then, I return to our apartment, get my family going, and sometimes we all return together to an interesting little side street I've found in my wanderings. I've never been concerned for my safety anywhere in the world - and certainly not in Italy.

In all the places you mention there should be plenty of places open. I do not think you need to be pointed to a specific place...if you are not located near that place, there is no need to go way out of your way to get a cup of coffee. Look for any commercial street. In April it gets light fairly early, so you should have no safety problem as long as you use your head.

Most bars open around 6,30-70,00 for those who want to have breakfast before starting an early job. Also, check out bakeries who sell hot bread and broches starting from about 6 am, get some food at a bakery and than have a cup of coffee in any bar. I would not check for early opening bars and bakeries in commercial areas, though! Your best bet is to head to popular and residential areas. COmmerncial arean, in Italy, have lots of cafes and bars which tend to oper a bit later (8 am), since people around those areas are not up early. No concerns about safety, certainly not at 6 am.

Thanks for the information. When I was in Ireland last year I had no trouble because the night porters usually fixed me a cup. Jody sounds like a kindred spirit. That time of day is lovely.
