An afternoon in Geiranger
 

Can anyone suggest a short hike or series of hikes we could do for an afternoon in Geiranger. We will be arriving around 1 and staying overnight leaving early the next morning. We will not have a car so limited in where we can go,

it's the geiranger fjord that is the main attraction. You could take the ferry to Hellesylt and back.

Geiranger is a huge cruiseship stop and so there are many outfits offering tours of Dalsnibba, Fjord Safari and such, but they're all group tours.

There is a very good Fjord culture center up the road from Geiranger.

You can walk from the small harbour up the twisty road past the round wooden church all the way to the view sight. The views on the way up are amazing. We walked past a river and waterfall as well. You must try the hot chocolate in the chocolate shop in town. The best I have ever had. Geiranger is one of the most beautiful places I have been to. We were there in May and the weather was perfect but the mountains still had quite a bit of snow. You will enjoy, whatever you do!

been there 3 times, not always because I chose to be there: basically it's a road with souvenir shops with lots of trolls and beautiful views once you get up Dalsnibba a bit. The hike to the Fjord Senter is indeed nice, as they've incorporated the little waterfall in their walking route. If you want to go on a hike that's a little longer, come prepared for that: good shoes, adequate clothes etc. Especially early in the year.

I did a mountainbike run once where they take you up Dalsnibba and you basically coast down. Very nice and you get beautiful views. You can book it at the port. There are lots of offices there offering such things.

great thank you we are going to be there early June and coming in on a Hurtigruten ship and disembarking to stay the afternoon and overnight then leaving early the next morning to return to Alesund by bus ferry bus bus:) We wanted to do a mild to moderate hike that afternoon there and just soak in the views.. so thank you for all your suggestions as we will look into them.
