Amsterdam with teens
Hello. I'll be in Amsterdam in July. It's a city I have been to many times, but not for about 20 years. I used to like to stay near Prinsengracht, not far from the Anne Frank house. What do you think of staying in that area nowadays and with teens? We are city people and like to have restaurants and people around us, but I certainly don't relish the idea of staying anywhere near central station or any place that is filled to the brim with tourists. But maybe that's inevitable in July?

Prinsengracht will be very busy with tourists, any of the canals are and July is a busy month. We like the area near Artis; quiet and green but still plenty of restaurants and easy access to other parts of the city. The Wittenberg is great for a family but requires a 7 night stay.
Being near Vondelpark is nice too in summer. |

The great thing about the location is that if you want to do the full canal thing, you'll be there right when you cross the Amstel river along Kerkstraat. You' ve got Artis nearby, but also Oosterpark. My other suggestions would be De Pijp, or North, along the #52 metro. Or Pension Homeland if they have rooms available, because it's as if you' re on a green island in the middle of Amsterdam. And the family that runs it is exceedingly nice https://www.pensionhomeland.com/en/ |
I have only been once a few years ago and stayed at the Amsterdam Marriott hotel. I would recommend anywhere near that location. It is not too busy and yet you can walk to a lot of the top attractions in the city. There is almost a tram nearby to everywhere you don't want to walk to.
