AMSTERDAM weather!!!!!!!
 

Amsterdam/Paris/Japan. - Mainly in Amsterdam. We have been watching the news.....Looking at newly posted Pictures on flickr and OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

We land Feb 3rd. Can anyone let me know what the media is saying about the weather when it is expected to lighten up so to speak!

Do we need to now bring SNOW clothing with us? I was reading Belgium is making a fortune stocking the dutch with Winter clothing!

Any advice would be helpful.

We have Thermals, PolarTec fleece jumpers and a good a Wet weather jacket each.
also hat, scarfs, gloves, thermal socks :) (mmmmm toasty socks)

i was planning on wearing sneakers and hubby his boots!! Do i need snow boots?

Feb 3rd., you mean that Feb 3rd. that will happen in 4 weeks. Who could possibly know? My bet: something between +20C and -20C.

Check out the weather a couple of days before you travel and pack accordingly.

I'd take a pair of something (footgear) that was more insulated and weatherproof as well as tennies, personally. Your feet are everything when it comes to a successful adventure. They get cold and/or sore and you do too.

If you just can't spare the room on the flight and you wait until you arrive , at least you're "in-season" for buying something locally if you can find something in your size.

Latest 2 week forecast show -2C to 0 daytime temps in tow weeks time. Slight chance of snow/rain.
Don't panic. Warm shoes, something waterproof and a good fleece and you will be fine. If you go to www.buienradar.nl and on the left hand side click on the 2 weken button you will see the long term forecast. Nearer departure choose the 5 dagen button. Opt for the details rather than the grafiek display and it is pretty self explanatory.
Apart from Wednesday when the Amsterdam area was hit by a heavy snowstorm there hasn't been that much snow in the area - other areas of the Netherlands have far more snow. It is cold, and you should be aware of possible windchill too. Bring a hat, gloves and a scarf. Or buy them here.

logos99 i was speaking of maybe the local news presenter has mentioned it was a passing snow storm or to expect this for a couple of weeks! we know to expect cold and wet however we we also informed it RARELY snows and as of the other day i guess rare is in season :)

thank you again all who were helpful. counting down the hours its something like 598 hours until we board the plane, my little sister was kind enough to make me a count down meter on her web page thingy bebo.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time no matter what the weather. With a bit of luck it will be cold and sunny and you can enjoy watching, and maybe joining in ;) the skating on the canals. They banned boats from moving along the canals a couple of weeks ago to give the ice a chance to grow enough for skating.
With even more luck (though very unlikely) you can join in the 11 towns race fever while you are over.
People are walking on the sea this weekend, and there are several skating tours organised, but it needs to be seriously cold for a long time to allow the 11 towns race to go ahead. The snow isn't helping that sadly.

that is a real shame what a spectacle im sure it would be. We saw some great pics of people with huge umbrellas still riding in the snow. Now that's a country with spirit. :) OOOO thinking about the excuse my spelling stroopwafels and hot chocolate has us already warming up :)

It is not at all cold - just around the freezing point. And, in fact, nobody knows the weather in four weeks. Probably 7°C and rain, which is worse than this perfect winter weather that we currently enjoy.

Ijust spent a week in Amsterdam during the winter from Hell and there was few problems for the tourist - sidewalks salted though at points where they were icy i had to walk in the bike paths, which were all salted it seemed (butbe careful about not getting in the way of bikes as cyclists do not take kindly to pedestrians in their bike right of way.

I would expect weather around 40 or so, based on pass sojourns in A'dam in winter - this is so so exceptional and Feb one would think would be more normal - wet and dark but notfreezing like now - a real anamoly i think. In any case even now Amsterdam is not really effected - even the trains were all running.
