Amsterdam Trip Suggestions

My wife & I are taking a trip soon to Europe & I'm looking for suggestions for entertainment in Amsterdam - lounges, clubs...basically adult level entertainment ideas other than the basics (museums, canals, tulips, etc.)

Feel free to e-mail me directly.

Thanks.

the red light district is a pretty good culture shock if you haven't seen that type of thing. be prepared for anything though.

Gord--do a search on this site on "Amsterdam". I recall some interesting suggestions some time back.

Take care using the word "adult" to
describe entertainment in A'dam -this
starts at titty bars & goes through
live sex shows to whatever.I think perhaps you don't mean this.(oh no?)
The redlight happily co-exists beside
cosy brown bars which are friendly clean relaxing, good coffee beer & snacks.Free concerts are often
given in the parks canals, such stuff
is well advertised locally & on the net.
(you can get an A'dam events guide on the net)
Bars come in many varieties, some
cater for sophisticates, some for people
who like to sing, some for lovers of beer, some specialise is peace & quiet.
(ahhhh.....), some have the "grand cafe" style. Most guidebooks can point you to
the bar for you.
Many of the bars and cafes are "smoking" ie they also sell cannabis & allow it to be smoked. These
places are worth a visit for the experience, generally they are clean & well run,you can just have a coffee &
watch the other visitors puzzling over
long cannabis menus.
I recommend "Gollem" for beer & chat.
The Doelen is a good hotel.
E-mail me if you have any particular
interests.(remove nospam)The best thing to do in A'dam
is simply to drink in it's laid-back
character-despite being a tourist city
it's not fast-paced.Almost everyone speaks English.

The cafes of Amsterdam are some of the most fascinating places you will ever see. Some won't even serve alcohol although they opt for 'specialities' of other sorts. I was shocked! If you're up for it, try going to a live sex show. My boyfriend finally talked me into going to the Casa Rossa on our last night in Amsterdam and I reluctantly went, seeing that there was another group of American tourists going in before us. Being a female, I figured that it would be really trashy, but it was quite entertaining, drinks are included in the addmission price, and the entertainers really put alot into their work. Very eye-opening for someone such as me, but it sure allowed me to see the 'sexy' side of the city of tulips.

Hi Gord

Amsterdam is my very favourite city after London (my home!). For lively nightlife, check out the bars and clubs around Leidseplein. Also, the brown cafes situated around the city are welcoming and atmospheric. My favourite is Het Molenpad on Prinzengracht:

http://dinner-in-amsterdam.nl/liggin...molenpad2.html

Other favourites of mine are Van Puffelen, also on Prinzengracht and Aas van Bokalen on Keiserzgracht.

Restaurant recommendation: Speciaal - an Indonesian restaurant serving the traditional Reichstafel banquet. (Ahout 20 little dishes!)

Check out the Time Out guide:

www.timeout.com/amsterdam
