Amsterdam to Munich

Traveling from Amsterdam to Munich for the first time and I was considering taking a boat trip on the Rhine River. Does anyone have any current info on a trip like that and how long does it take?

Also, considering staying in a castle in Germany and wanted to get some info on experiences other travelers have had.

Thanks so much

The interesting part of the river is between Bingen and Koblenz:

I just visited briefly Schloss Schoeburg in Oberwesel - a tip I stole from a trip report:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...e-adriatic.cfm

From Amsterdam to Oberwesel/Castle Schoenburg should take approx.:
2 - 2,5 hours to cross the border into Germany (Netherlands have strict speed limits!) and further to Oberwesel it should be doable within 3 hours depending whether you cross the border close to Duesseldorf or Emmerich.
The castle is really nice and the rooms seem extremely pleasant - but have their price tag.

From Oberwesel you can travel towards Munich which should take you another 3 hours - straight and 5 on a scenic route.

I assume you rent a car incl. GPS . make sure it features the English language.

Enjoy your planning and trip - finally!

oops - should add: I like to drive fast - wherever possible;-). So for you just add one or 1,5 hours to the drive from Oberwesel to Munich - to play safe.

Sorry - I did not consider your idea regarding the boat trip.
Depending on the tour you choose you might consider one more night either in Duesseldorf or Cologne.

do you have any interest in a drive yourself canal trip?
We used www.leboat.com in the South of France in 2001.
We loved it so much we are doing it again in Holland in Sept.
It looks like they have a few routes in Germany to choose from.

The boat was easy to maneuver.
