Amsterdam to London?

Quick question...what is the best way to get to London from Amsterdam? I am just toying around with plans and cannot find out that information. Thanks everyone for the help. Alice

Cheapo flight from Amsterdam to just about any of London's 5 international airports.

The train through the Tunnel, changing at Brussels or Lille, takes about 5 hours, and is generally pricier than a cheapo flight.

The train-boat-train via Harwich/Hook of Holland takes longest, but there was a bloke sitting next to me on a train the other day raving about how cheap it was (about £25 each way, which is cheaper than the flight really, really costs)

Define "best"!!

Quickest would be by plane, but there's a trade-off between price and convenience of timing and the location of the airport. You can get some very cheap flights from Stansted or Luton, but they could mean leaving central London in the early hours of the morning. Say, about four hours door-to-door at the fastest (which is the most convenient airport depends on where in London you're starting from).

You could get a train, starting with Eurostar and changing at Brussels. Not as cheap as a lot of flights, but about 6-7 hours door to door. Again, the more convenient the time, the more expensive it's likely to be.

You could spend a lot longer taking a leisurely train and ferry trip via Harwich and the Hook of Holland: some people like it for the experience.

You can get cheap bus and ferry trips, if you fancy 13 hours or so travelling overnight.

Budget airline choices:
Amsterdam-London City on VLM
Amsterdam-Heathrow on BMI
Amsterdam-Gatwick on easyJet
Amsterdam-Luton on easyJet
Amsterdam-Stansted on easyJet

The best way is VLM from Amsterdam to London City Airport. Might not be the cheapest, but certainly the fastest and easiest.

We did the reverse trip and really enjoyed it. Got to see some countryside and got to ride a ferry. Nice, slow, enjoyable trip. Take some food and drink with you (no alcohol).
