Amsterdam to Copenhagen by ferry
 

Help Please!! 3 Aussie ladies spending 1 week in Amsterdam then 1 week in Copenhagen, would like to go by ferry instead of train or air (if possible) but finding it very confusing reading other posts and checking out websites. If better to go by train would like to break journey up by spending 3 nights in another location of interest - either in Netherlands or Germany - really have no idea where to go, would appreciate any advice. Traveling in May

I've never heard of a ferry for this journey, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

It's a very long journey by train. If you want to go this way, I'd suggest breading your journey in northern Germany. Maybe Hamburg? It's another big port city and on the direct train route between the two. Or maybe Lübeck, which is a lot smaller and has interesting buildings from the Hanseatic period.

Have a look at the map, and for train times use the German Railways website www.bahn.de - there is an English language option (change the flag from Deutschland to UK/Ireland).

I am about 99% certain that there are no ferries operating on this route. Train, plane, or drive. Personally, I'd fly.

Just to clarify the "long' comment above, the trip is going to take between 10-11 hours by rail and requires changes.

You could, as has been suggested, break up the trip in Hamburg or Lubeck

There are no ferries from Amsterdam to Copenhagen.
You would need to go by ferry to harwich and from Harwich to Esbjerg and from there by train. It would take three days though.

Fly, train or drive are the only sensible options I'm afraid.

You COULD drive it inside one day (there are now bridges connecting all the Danish islands) but if you are renting, the drop-off charge would be huge. Unless you really do not want to fly, take a train.

There is a city night line train which goes direct from Amsterdam to Copenhagen. It takes 15 hours and costs from €123 pp.

If you took a look at a map you'd understand why a ferry would not make any sense at all.

If you look at a map, Amsterdam and Copenhagen don't face each other across water. So for obvious reasons, there are no ferries as this trip involves travel overland!

There's a direct City Night Line sleeper train every night, departing Amsterdam centraal daily at 19:01, arriving Copenhagen Central at 09:59 next morning. City centre to city centre!

There are economical couchettes from just 49 euros one-way (6 or 4 berths per compartment) or more luxurious sleeping-car berths, from 79 euros for a bed in a 2-berth. There are also deluxe sleepers with private toilet and shower.
