amsterdam to brugge
 

My son and I will be arriving in Amsterdam June 13 and we'll stay there for 3 days then proceed to Brugge for another 3 days. During this time, do you advise purchasing the tickets in advance here in the US ,i.e, with rail europe , or are we "safe" if we buy in Amsterdam? Pls help. Thanks.

By the way, I meant train travel.

There are very frequent trains from Amsterdam to Brugge (changing in Antwerp) so I wouldnt suggest that you buy the tickets from the US because it can be expensive, unless someone here has come better suggestion. Have a look at www.ns.nl there is an english version too. Once there, click on the top right corner for the international connections and set the 2 cities in order to get all the connections.

ooops, I forgot: I suggest that you buy the tickets directly at the station in Amsterdam, they speak english quite well, so no problem!

We were in Amsterdam two weeks ago and went to Brugge for a day trip. We purchased our tickets at the Centraal station the day before and had no problems. You don't have to buy them in advance here in the US.

I wish we could have stayed in Brugge longer as it is just a wonderful city.

Your going to love Brugge. Chocolate shoppes everywhere. Brugge is one of my favorite cities in Europe.

When you travel on the Thalys (to Antwerp), you will need seat reservations. When you travel on an ordinary train you don't need (and can't even get) seat reservations. I would take an ordinary train which has the same speed in the Netherlands and Northern Belgium as the Thalys.

Kricket - was it worth it to do Brugge as a daytrip from Amsterdam? We'll be in A'dam next week & I've always wanted to see Brugge, but it looks like about 3-1/2 hrs each way via train.
