Amsterdam to Brugess

Following all the great and helpful comments about Hotels in Brugess, does anyone know if we need to book ahead for our seats on the train from Amstedam to Burgess or just front up? What is the best way to get to Paris from Brugess ?

As is mentioned on this forum all the time, you can do your basic research through the German train site It shows trains leaving Amsterdam about every half hour during the day. The slow trains take around three hours; the fast trains on the Thalys system take two hours. All seem to require a train change in Brussels. DB appears to sell tickets with seat reservations for the fast trains on-line although I did not follow the purchase process all the way through. Go to

You can change trains at Antwerp instead of Brussels if you prefer.
If you are taking the Inter-city - usually cheaper but slower you can buy your tiket on teh day, no reservations needed.
If you decide to take teh Thalys, faster and often more expensive you need to book as far in advance as you can to get the cheapest ticket.
Thalys is often crowded btw.
