Amsterdam to ?

I am sending my husband on a trip with a friend for his 30th birthday. He is going March 2-March 9 and flying from Philadelphia to Amsterdam. I want to have him fly home from someplace else, and he has always wanted to see Germany. I am open for all suggestions? Thanks!

Last May my wife and I flew into Amsterdam, spent three nights, took a train to Brugge, Belgium and spent two nights there, and then a train to Paris and spent five terrific nights in the City of Lights.

I think it is a great combination of cities. Your time is a bit shorter, so I suggest three nights in Amsterdam and five in Paris. Both cities are wonderful and so very different that I think it makes a great combination.

Feel free to email me if you want any details or other information.

Has he mentioned anywhere particular in Germany? What does he like to see or do on holiday?

I have been to Munich, so I had suggested that. He is pretty much up for anything.

The best destination after Amsterdam is, in my opinion, Paris. I love Amsterdam but certainly Paris is even better.

Munich and the rest of Germany might be a letdown. You have to remember that Amsterdam is pretty lively and Munich is, well tell the truth, it's not the same level of "Fun".

But if your husband doesn't want to visit to Paris, or has been there many other times, head over to London and the party can continue. Maybe Madrid or Barcelona would be a "Stop on the Way" while heading home.

I hope he has a good trip, in any case.

You are sending your 30 year old husband to Amsterdam? I call that TRUST.

The best party city in Germany is Düsseldorf. The Altstadt is the place to be.

I have been there before, and I do trust him. May have to remind him to come home though :)

Perhaps Cologne in Germany? He could do that by train.
Or Antwerp, Belgium; also by train, then on to Paris by train, then home.

Dusseldorf is a great city, very lively (and one of the best shopping cities in Germany, perfect for him to buy you a terrific, high quality souvenir) but it's quite modern, not for someone who wants "old" Germany.
I've been to Amsterdam a few times and wouldn't find Munich a letdown at all. Would be easy for him to fly back to Philly from Munich. It's quite a train ride from A'dam--long but scenic. Might be a good way for them to doze off the partying in A'dam.
If he's not really set on Germany, then agree with the Paris option, perhaps a night in Bruges as well.
Question: is he flying on March 2 on arriving March 2? If he flies on the 2nd, then he won't arrive til the 3rd and that would be too short a trip to fit in the long ride to Munich.

Why is everyone assuming the husband is going there to party? Maybe he's interested in history, who knows..I love Amsterdam, not into partying, but I still manage to enjoy myself there.

In Amsterdam a person can search into the ancient trade. These traders were the oldest profession in history, so checking into the history in Amsterdam could be fun.

Okay, I'm joking. Amsterdam is still one of my fav. city in Europe. It's just fun to walk around this city, whether it's early or late in any day.

I hope he goes to party! And of course for the history and scenic areas. It is a big birthday and he has had a rough year, so as long as he stays away from the ladies...then I am ok with it! :) He is flying on the 2nd, coming home the 10th and then taking an overnight train to Germany to head to Munich.
