AMSTERDAM-The Jordaan?

I'm going to Amsterdam with my husband (we're in our late twenties and want to go to restaurants at night, bu nothing too touristy or overpriced) and considering a hotel in the Jordaan neighborhood. Would it be extremely out of the way? Are there good restaurants/cafes there?
Thanks!
Laura

De Jordaan is one of the nicest neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. Lots of small bars and restaurants. Very close to most things a tourist would want to do. You can walk everywhere if you are a reasonably fit person.

Hey Laura, I read your post. Just wanted to mention I am going to Amsterdam for the time next month, I'm a 24 year old guy and I've never been, and I wondered the same things. Amsterdam is not a large city area wise. You can walk anywhere easily and see all the sight from the "Jordaan". Specifically I am staying at the "Hotel Toren" which is right off the "Keizersgracht". The Jordaan techinically starts just behind this canal. There are as I understand it a multitude of restaurants, small art galleries and coffeeshops in the neighborhood. Everything I've heard about the "Jordaan" is great. I think it really is a great location to stay with eveything within walking distance. Have a great trip!

Laura,
About the Jordaan, the area is filled with small speciality shops, a lot of cafes and a good selection of restaurants. As for a hotel, look at www.innsite.com and check out "Lindenstraat 5" B&B.
