. . "Window Shopping" we called it . .
|
We took a nighttime canal tour that went through several areas of Amsterdam including the red light district. In that context it was OK as we never left the boat but I would not want to walk around there at night.
I read on another board that if you do go it's not cool to take pics of the ladies. Evidently the ladies and their employers are not very receptive to that. |
Believe me I did not take photos. But I was interested to see the women in the windows.
|
ah the area makes some folk see red (pun intended) but to others it is an eye opener.

How much is the Czech in the window? The one with the curly hair? |
very safe
|
Well there are at least in Europe no red-light districts as blatant and obvious as Amsterdam's and that is why it is listed as the 2nd most visited place for tourists in Amsterdam
There is one in Antwerp. We fell upon it by accident. At first it looked like mannequins advertising lingerie (my wife thought so too). |
Walked through with no problems, albeit in the daytime. Found almost all of the ladies VERY unattractive!! People actually PAY these females????

Yes Belgium is the only other country in which I've seen sanctioned red-light districts - Brussels and Gent have them or did - I have not been there in several years. And of course Nevada in the good ole U.S. Legalizing it only helps keep it above board as tough as that is with the exploitation of women always a problem. |
Germany has red light districts.
|
Completely safe. If for no other reason than the fact that you're surrounded by a ton of other gawking tourists. Not something I have any desire to see again, but I certainly was not worried about my safety.
|
I found it very friendly. Lots of women waving at me and saying hello. I felt important.

Germany has red light districts.>
Nothing quite the same even the Reeperbahn in Hamburg IME - many Germany cities have large bordellos that look like apartment buildings - like the one near Dusseldorf's main train station (or used to be there some years ago when....) But yes prostitution seems to be lagzlized and or regulated in Germany or at least certain Lands (states). |
it is totally beyond me that the commodification of women's sexuality is supposed to be "normal". but that's me.
|
the world oldest profession as they say and in Amsterdamned you can get boys too so it's an equal opportunity exploiter if so.
|
yeah whatever.
