Amsterdam- Only 1 night- The best restaurant!!!!!

Staying one night and want to know your opinions on what is the absolute best restaurant in amsterdam.

Looking for great food and great atmosphere.
Thanks

If you're looking for Dutch food, I would recommend the place my Dutch friends took me; D' VIJFF VLIEGHEN (or Five Flies). It occupies 5 old houses and has traditional Dutch food. On Spuistradt.

Otherwise, you might like Indonesian. I enjoyed Sarang Mas on Damracht.

dougieo; why are you asking about fast food in another post then?
I like the food and atmosphere at Blakes; kind of east meets west food, in beautiful setting (Keizersgracht).

I'm also unsure what you're looking for. I looked through some of your other posts and you seem to suggest you are generally looking for more hip or trendy places, and your request for upscale in Paris was for a budget of $150 for two -- not much budget for Paris.

By "absolute best" here do you really mean that -- a five star dining experience that probably is more American or French in experience and probably at a world class restaurant spending $500 or more? Or do you mean best way to experience Dutch style dining or the traditional "rice table" (sorry I never remember how to spell the Indonesian word). Or are you looking for a really fun, hip, and trendy all around dining experience?

My instinct was to also recommend the five flies as Grasshopper did if you want a really nice and upscale Dutch experience. Or practically across the street is the lively, trendy, and fun Luden. But I don't know that either of these would usually be called "absolute best restaurant in Amsterdam."

dougieo,
(and a hello to Grasshopper!)
I liked the Five Flies too. Went for a five-course vegetarian dinner which was incredibly inventive and featured many local and organic ingredients.
I liked the historic atmosphere and the very nice waiters. Good wine list too.

We ate at five flies in October and loved it. They have three or four tasting menus or you can order of the menu. Great atmosphere. Very "old world" not hip and trendy.
