Amsterdam in Early november
 

Hello all!!

Im taking my first trip overseas in November to Paris. YAY!!!
I know its not the "BEST" time to go, but anyways....
I wanted to take a day trip to Amsterdam for a day or two.

What should I expect the weather to be like..
What are the best things to see/do in a short trip there...
What will be closed??

Any tips with be really helpful!

Nothing will be "closed" in November - bt naturally the flowers will not be in bloom.

The weather is likely to be fairly similar to Paris - chilly (but not winter cold) and grey or drizzly - with perhaps a couple of brighter days.

You cannot go for a couple of day trips - you need to get a hotel there - multiple day trips is a nonsense - it's too far.

For what to do in both places read a couple of good guidebooks. Or tell us a little about you (age, gender, interests, if you will have a companion or be solo) and people can make recos.

It will be my boyfriend, and I, we are in late 20's.
I love finding the fun markets,to grab fun keepsakes, and hiding good local bars. Historical sites always fun!!
My boyfriend, would love to visit the coffee shops.

I know its not going to be the best time to be outside but, we both love outdoor actives. Good areas to just wonder.

For markets, the Waterlooplein is the best-known flea-market, but tends to the touristy. Another option might be the Noordermarkt

For a general market (foodstuffs, cheap clothes,household goods, hardware and bits for bicycles) Albert-Cuypstraat.

And don't miss the Flower Market on Singel.

If you get a bright day, and want to get out of the city, consider taking a day trip to Zaanse Schans. We did that in January, taking an early train from the central station and arriving well before the tour buses. It is an easy 1km walk from the train station into the town. There is a very nice restaurant just on the northwest corner of the bridge which is also avoided by the large tour groups, being on the wrong side of the river. We had a very pleasant lunch there.

It was grey and rainy in Amsterdam and most of the Netherlands even in mid August, so closed shoes/boots, slicker, umbrella for sure. Even though it was raining I took a (covered) canal tour which covered a lot of "ground" in 90 minutes.

I enjoyed walking around the Jordaan district where I was staying in a b&b/studio (it's the neighborhood of Anne Frank house as well, which was 10 min. walk away.

IF you have any interest in Anne Frank house be sure to get tickets on line in advance or you'll spend too much time (I mean hours) in line.

I would advise at least one night there -- if you do stay two nights or more and do any "day trips" out from Amsterdam, Haarlem is a good one. You could also stay in Haarlem and take a short (20 min?) train ride into Amsterdam.
