BOOK A HOTEL NOW!!!
That's the main thing to be concerned about. It will be utterly hopeless if you wait too long, and I am not exaggerating.
It is a huge conference - attendance for 2004 was over 40,000.
I'll go out on a limb and guess it probably won't adversely affect your visit, since most conference-goers will be at the conference. You can make some dinner reservations and be OK on that score. Amsterdam is very walkable, you might need to supplement with a tram ride now and then but you could get by.
A hotel room is most important.

What is the IBC conference? Int'l Business Conference; Int'l Bowling Congress; Int'l Book Conference? What place in Amsterdam can hold 40,000 people at one time?

International Broadcasters

If you're going to be using the tram system you might stay away from hotels on the #4 line (chiefly the Rembrandtsplein area). The #4 is the main line between the RAI convention center and the center of Amsterdam.

The conference lasts several days, so the 40,000 people is spread out a bit over that timeframe.
