Amsterdam hotels - Ambassade, Seven Bridges, or Canal House
I will be visiting Amsterdam with my grandmother, and would prefer that she not have to walk up steep stairs. I have read that the Ambassade and Canal House have elevators, and Seven Bridges has a wonderful first floor room.
I would also like to have a central location with as little walking as possible since my grandmother sometimes has difficulty walking long distances. I would love to read your opinions on which hotel would be best suited for us. We both enjoy smaller hotels with local ambience..... and good value doesn't hurt either. Thanks to everyone who can help! |
Just hoping for a reply. Thanks.

Having stayed at Ambassade three times, let me tell you that although there are a couple of elevators, they don't eliminate all stairs. I'm not sure if that is a problem for you or not. In other words, there a couple of stairs down into the lobby. Because the hotel is a string of houses, some rooms require some stairs between levels. But if you advise them when booking, I'd think they'd make sure your room was easier by elevator.
The hotel is lovely and the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is both elegant and wonderful, but quite expensive as an addition to the room. |
Thank you Patrick. A few steps are fine, I was just worried about the very narrow and steep staircases I had been reading about.

Does anyone else have comments on the other hotels?

We will be trying the Hotel Washington in June. When are you going?

Wren, we will be there the end of May.

I believe the Canal House (which we love BTW) has a lift, but the floors are somewhat chaotic, so you may walk down the hall, down two steps, then up two a few yards along, etc. I'm sure, though, that they'd accommodate your grandmother. Superb location and nice people.

Thank you Gardyloo. I will email them and see if they could accommodate us.
