Amsterdam hotels

Hello:

I will be travelling to Amsterdam for five days in March. We are hoping to stay at a mid-range hotel (between $100-$150) a night. Our options now include the Ambassade, Hotel Toren, Hotel Agora, and the Park Hotel. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Also, does anyone have experience with the Hotel Citadel?

I have stayed at the Owl, Westropa, SAS and american Hotels and liked the Westropa and Owl the best. They are the least expensive of the 4 listed but most personable. The Westropa and Owl are both near the Leidseplein and offer a clean contemporary environment.

There are links to both of these on my websight.

http://home.earthlink.net/~richardab/

Follow the path--

Enter>Fly>Europe>Amsterdam>Sleep

all the amsterdam pages aren't finished yet but the entire SLEEP section is.

My sight also has some eating and sleeping and travel info for Rome.

If you have any questions, please send me an Email.

Enjoy!

We are stahing at the hotel agora during our trip in mid-March. I chose it on price, location and the Fodor's recommendation in their newest book. [It gets a star.] I considered the ambassade and got nothing but wonderful comments on it, but it was more than we wanted to pay, alas.

Here is the hotel agora website: http://www.hotelagora.nl/

We stayed at the Hotel Toren and loved it. It was the perfect location; we walked everywhere. Our room was pretty large with a beautiful view of the canal. The staff was so helpful with my incessant questions. I highly recommend it.

I like the Doelen - situation is quiet but central, breakfast room has great views, ask for a room high up with a view of the Amstel, does not resemble a rabbit warren unlike many "good" hotels.
The Ambassade is also good, but expensive.

Ditto everything Ilisa said about the Toren. Great location, great staff, nice rooms, historic building on a very scenic stretch of canal.

After trying several other places I'm always staying at Ambassade. Check several rooms if possible - they are all different.

I have stayed at Rho Hotel and Holiday Inn. Both are very comfortable and central, but the Holiday Inn is a better option. It is simply the best !

The Canal House is also suppose to be a nice place. Its in a quiet neighborhood and is furnished with antiques.

I also think that the Agora is about as central as you can get.
We like The Bridge Hotel on the Amstel near the Carre Theatre. We've never paid more than $90 a night including breakfast. The rooms are clean and spacious. It's a 5 minute walk to Waterlooplein and a 5 minute walk to Wheesperplein metro stop. They have a website at www.thebridgehotel.nl, (I think that's it) - don't confuse it with Seven Bridges. Have a great trip.
