Amsterdam - Hotels < $100
 

Any recommendations for hotels in Center City that are less than $100 a night. And any recommendations for such hotels that we DO NOT want! So hard to tell looking at the web. Would like to be as close to Dam Square and museums as possible. Thanks!

Two years ago, we stayed at Hotel Acro near the Rijksmuseum and paid $78 for a double. The room was small but spotless, had a bath w/shower and hairdryer, breakfast was included, and there was an elevator.

We found it from Frommer's Little Black Book of Budget Hotels, which he puts out annually.

We are going back to Amsterdam in March and are staying there again, great location. This time, we need a triple and are paying $145.

A good website for getting prices, photos, location, etc is www.bookings.nl (and it is a good one to use if you want to book thru them).

This hotel is on my short list (Hotel de Munck) - I have seen it and its location, but have not stayed there. Did find some positive (and found no negative) comments about it: http://www.hoteldemunck.com/

Also have Acro Hotel on my short list - everyone comments on how clean it is.

Truthfully, there is not much reason to stay close to Dam Square - more noise and congestion there. But around the museum quarter and Leidseplein, or in the Jordaan (or is it Joordan?) are good places/neighborhoods to find hotels.

I was trying to think of this hotel, also... it has been favorably mentioned in the forum, and other sites..

Try to the Holiday Inn Amsterdam. I have found it to be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at!

It is not in the city center, but there is a metro stop at the front of the hotel. It takes less than 10 minutes to get into the city center. If you don't want to take the metro, it is a 20 euro cab fare to the city center.

We were able to get it for around $100 US dollars a night. You must check this out. You can check it out on their website: www.sixcontinenthotel.com or call them. Good luck.

We stayed at Hotel Fantasia during October 2003. Paid 93 Euro for twin bedded room - breakfast included. It is very close to Waterloo square and about 4 blocks from Rembrandt square. A friend recommended this Hotel - she stayed there the past 4 years, and I must say I will also go back. The Hotel has its own website www.hotelfantasia.com

My advice is to try Priceline first. I got a three star (Renaissance) for $75.00 per night at Christmas. If nobody takes your bid, then try the previously mentioned websites.

True, the Pricleine hotels are more &quot;American&quot; in that they are upscale and full of amenities, but I get my charm quotient staying at small inns and B&amp;B's when I venture out of the big cities. I also like the fact that with Priceline, my hotel is paid before I go thus that credit card charge isn't waiting for me when I get back from my trip. The down side is that if some unforeseen circumstance comes up where you have to change your plans, you forfeit your money (unless you purchase the trip canx insurance.)

I second Zeus's recommendation: Priceline is the way to go unless you are not sure about your itenerary. With Priceline you are typically guaranteed quality accommodations and, depending on your dates of travel, you can get a 4* in the Center City/Museum Quarter for $70-90. We recently went to Amsterdam for a busy and long Thanksgiving weekend and got Marriott Amsterdam for $85/night.

I stayed at the Hotel Bema which is opposite the Concertgebouw, near the museums,(Rijksmuseum, van Gogh &amp; Stedelijk museum).

Cheap, clean, funky. Be ready for a bit of a climb as there is no lift.
