Amsterdam hotel suggestions

Would love to visit Amsterdam and thinking of a hastily planned trip this August. I wanted to stay at The Canal House, but it is being renovated and won't be available until Spring, 2009. Would a middle of April spring vacation be a better choice with reservations at the Canal House when they begin accepting them? The tulips should be in full bloom then, hopefully.

However, if this current trip is a go, can anyone give me some idea on their favorite hotel to stay at for about €100 - €150 for my husband and I?
We would be interested in a central location in Amsterdam near the museums and hopefully a room with a canal view.

Thanks.

I might try for August instead of April, since the northern spring can be so iffy in terms of weather -- although it can certainly rain or be too hot in Amsterdam in August.

This is a hotel that was down the street from mine, so I know it's canal location is great, but I know nothing else about it.

and this is the place I plan to stay when i return to Amsterdam, I hope soon

If nothing works out, just remember that April has the tulips.

We stayed at Maes Bed & Breakfast in Amsterdam while visiting in May 2006. This choice was based on reviews here and at www.TripAdvisor.com as well.

It was the nicest, friendliest place we have stayed. The B&B is run by two young men, one from Russia and one from California. Terrific location in the Jordaan area, one block off a canal, walking distance to the Central Station on one end of town and the museum district on the other.

You can't go wrong. Trust me.

Hello Princess- just stayed at Estheria. Close in, on canal, everything perfect. They have a website. If it is in your budget, I highly recommend. Have a great trip!!

I stayed at the Dikker & Thijs this past March. Perfect location, in my opinion - walkable to everywhere. It's a 4 star, though not nearly as nice as the Estherea, but a heckuva lot cheaper. They have canal view rooms, but be aware that the tram goes right by the hotel all day & night long.
